AWARDS AND COMMUNITY

Charity Initiatives
Prisoners are encouraged and supported to participate in charity fund raising. Care will be taken to ensure the relevant charity is comfortable with prisoner involvement.

Community Initiatives
HMP Rye Hill is committed to having close involvement with community and voluntary organisations. We have already established links with local volunteers who assist with religious activities and agencies such as the Racial Equality Council and the Samaritans who are already regular contributors to the prison's policies and development.

Plans for the future include a volunteer led information and advice "drop in" centre for prisoner's visitors and an initiative to involve prisoners' families in the Sentence Planning process.

In December 2001 HMP Rye Hill achieved "Investors in People". Awarded for demonstrable commitment to staff training and development, it ensures that all employees are regularly reviewed on their training and development needs, and relevant plans put into place.
