DRUG POLICY

HMP Rye Hill in partnership with the Prison Service is committed to the Government's Strategy of 'Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain'.

The four aims of the Government Strategy are to:
  • Help young people resist drug misuse in order to achieve their full potential;
  • To protect our communities from drug-related antisocial and criminal behaviour;
  • To enable people with drug problems to overcome them and live healthy crime-free lives;
  • To stifle the availability of illegal drugs on our streets.
This will be achieved by adopting a four-point strategy:
  • Reducing the supply of illegal drugs in prison
  • Reduction of the demand for illegal drugs
  • Provision of clinical treatment options and education on health related issues
  • Delivery of a Counselling Assessment Referral Advice and Throughcare (CARAT) service
The Drug Strategy Team (DST) will monitor the work. The DST will also collate information in relation to training needs of staff and assessment of resources.
