The Independent Monitoring Board report published in April
2002 said:
The Board would endorse the comments of the Director General, Martin
Narey, who visited the prison a week after our reporting period ended:
"...This must have been as satisfactory a commissioning
of a prison as we have experienced and Rye Hill holds the prospect
of becoming a very fine establishment indeed."
